making baby shower cake 12, 10, 8 in round covering w/ fondant what is the best type of cake to use?

I will decorate each differently, Largest with pink fondant diamonds 10 in with multicolored fondant dots, and smallest multi colored stripes topped with fondant bow. I need the most stable cake possible....Please help!!!

Details:

  1. As long as you're using supports in the cake (and you do have to) then the cake doesn't need to be something super-dense like a pound cake. Personally I like the White Almond sour cream cake recipe that's so popular...you can do it in different flavors, doesn't have to be almond. http://www.recipezaar.com/White-Almond-Sour-Cream-Wedding-Cake-69630
  2. Pound cake, it's thicker and could probably withstand the weight of stacking. You may also want to use dowels to keep the layers from sliding.
  3. My boyfriends mother makes wedding cakes and baby shower cakes for friends and family, she mainly uses the box cake mix, but instead of water she adds whole milk, it makes the cake a little denser, but it is really moist and holds up well. She usually uses the vanilla "flavor" cakes or white cake mix. She does this to save time! Good Luck and I hope this helps!
