My co-worker went out during lunch and purchased these cookies and delivered to me and gave me just in case we ran out. She asked where the cookies where and proceeded to put them anywhere at the table and my decoration was altered. I thought the whole thing was a bit insensitive and controlling on her end. She should have trusted that I would deliver my end of the responsibility. What do you guys think?

  10. I'm making fondant for a cake. Recipe calls for vanilla extract. Can I use lemon or almond extract instead?

I'm using this recipe (which I found on Y!A), but my vanilla extract is ugly brown and not clear :/ Will the fondant taste bad if I use lemon or almond? If both are okay, which would be tastier? Fondant 1 cup light corn syrup 1 cup shortening 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract 2 pounds confectioners' sugar In a large bowl, stir together the shortening and corn syrup. Mix in the salt and vanilla flavoring, then gradually mix in the confectioners' sugar until it is a stiff dough. If you are using a stand mixer, use the dough hook attachment. Otherwise, knead by hand. If the dough is sticky, knead in more confectioners' sugar until it is smooth. Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator. To use, roll out on a clean surface that has been dusted with confectioners' sugar until it is 1/8 inch thick or thinner if you can. Drape over frosted and chilled cakes and smooth the sides down, or cut into strips to make bows and other decorations. I'm making a white cake as a surprise for my friend who FINALLY got engaged to the guy she's been best friends with since middle school. He moved out-of-state to work, and she went to visit him for the first time last week and is coming home today with a ring on her finger :D I'm hoping to make a sort of mini wedding cake to drop off at her house before she gets home.

3 cups flour 1 T. baking powder 1/2 cup margarine, softened 6 eggs, beaten 1/2 cup corn oil 2 jars strained chicken baby food 2 cups finely shredded carrots plain or vanilla yogurt 2 or 3 strips of bacon, fried crisp, then crumbled, or use bacon-flavored jerky strips, cut into bits. then i will top it off with yogurt the whole cake even on the sides. And add maybe two teaspoons of peanut butter as decorations. This cake sounds like it will be too big for my dog, will it be fine if i divide the ingredients all in half? and my other question is can dogs have yogurt? because i read that they cant it will upset their tummy.

  16. Making a Fondant cake?

I have searched the net and found 2 Fondant Recipes I would like to know which one is better which ones last longer if i make it in advance in the refrigerator and if anyone has tried them before which one taste better. Hand made kind * 1 Tbsp of unflavored gelatin * 1/4 cup of cold water * 1 tsp of almond extract * 1/2 cup of light corn syrup (If a corn syrup is not available, you can substitute it with a sugar syrup made with 1-1/4 cups sugar and 1/3 cup water, boiled together until syrupy) * 1 Tbsp of glycerin (some recipes say it’s optional, believe me, it’s a must) * 2 lbs 10X confectioners’ sugar * 1/2 tsp of white vegetable shortening ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marshmallow Kind 16 ounces white mini-marshmallows (use a good quality brand) 2 to 5 tablespoons water 2 pounds icing sugar (please use C&H Cane Powdered Sugar for the best results) 1/2 cup Crisco shortening (you will be digging into it so place in a very easily accessed bowl) Also does anyone know of which would be easier for the decorations for my cake? And how long does it take the decorations to set for the cake. I would like to only make the fondant once and hope that i can make the decorations then use the rest after the decorations dry to put on the cake. I hope this makes sense.

  19. How long will this cake stay fresh?

I am making a classic roll cake with a Pilsbury "white moist supreme" cake mix. I am also using this recipe for the filling which I have found on this answers website: "before i go on, i need to let you know a few things about strawberries. if, when you add them to the cake, any air pockets touch the strawberries, they will start to go bad. to counteract that, I suggest you take the not-so-perfect strawberries and mash them with a potato masher. keep the good ones (with the tops) for decoration. whip up your whip cream with about 2 teaspoons of sugar, and about 1/4 teaspoon of cream of tartar. You'll find Cream of tartar at your bulk food store, with the spices, or at your grocery store in the baking aisle. it's a white powder that adds a bit of acid to the cream to help keep it stiff. whip the cream until it forms peaks, that's when you pull the whip out of the cream and the cream forms a peak that doesn't fall. Just make sure you don't over-whip, or you'll end up with butter (i've done that myself a few times). mix about 1/3 of the whipped cream with about 1/2 - 3/4 of a cup of the mashed strawberries. the cream will turn pink. use this to fill the layers of your cake, just don't let the cream go within 1/2 inch of the edge of the cake, or when you put the top layer on, the pink cream with squish out." The user had not been active for two years, otherwise I would have asked her. Oh also, I plan on slicing up this cake, what would be the best way to wrap it and store it? And if I want to not mash the strawberries and instead chop them up and mix them into the cream for a filling, how long would that stay fresh and what way could I store it to make it last? Thank you in advance! Oh! And this will be my first time making a roll cake, any tips? Thank you!

  20. I want to do a Dora The Explorer Birthday Party for my soon to be one year old daughter...any ideas?

  21. Recepies for a fruitcake or heavy pound cake?

My birthday is coming up soon and I have always made my own cake. I make victoria sponge sandwiches or chocolate sponges but this year I wnat to make a 'Princess' cake. It needs to be heavy enough to cope with a tiara and royle icing on top as decoration. I could really do with a recipie for a nice fruitcake (no alcohol or any fruit peel) or heavy pound/maderia cake that will cope with this kind of decoration. Also please note, I will pick the best answer as soon as I am able. I cannot work in grams or cups (I know these measurements don't work) so ounces only, please. Thanks in advance

  26. Mom's to little girls ages 3 - 12?

I have been thinking about selling party packages online for kids that include everything needed for a party except the food/cakes -Invitations -Decorations -Plates, Cups, Napkins, Silverware -Craft -Games -Thanks You Cards -Favors All to match the theme... I really wanted to specialize in girly themes such as Princess and Fairy which would include dress up items for the girls to take home! Like Fairy Wings, Tiaras, Tutus, Necklaces and Feather Boas depending on which theme! Also for older girls I would offer more like a Fashionista type party with cool hats, arm warmers, colorful hair extensions, funky jewelry etc.. And more older type games and crafts For themes I was thinking about Spa Rock Star Glamour Girl Sleep Over I was also thinking about offering some neutral themes like Pirates, Wild West, Under the Sea and things like that What I am wondering is if you think people would be interested? I would include very pretty things some things my be bought others handmade but together you could have a very impressive table setting tons of entertainment and all the girls will love dressing in accessories that they could take home... I was going to offer several packages so it would fit lots of parents budgets. Another thing I was wondering is if I should keep everything girly and keep all the themes girly? Or if I should keep all the themes dress up like include accessories for Pirates and Wild West? I would appreciate some input on this idea! I would also include food ideas to serve at the party in the pary guide book

  29. Baking with icing! (marzipan, roll out icing, fondant etc)?

I'm wanting to make cup cakes with a smooth flat layer of icing and make leaves and shapes to put on top. I'v got many baking books but I'm so confused between fontant icing and marzipan ?? which one do I use for what? And how do I make it? All my books tell me to use roll-out-icing but i dont think you can buy that in South Africa. Can anyone help and and tell me what should I layer a cake with and what recipe should I use for decorations?? I'v never do it before, have only played around with icing sugar and colorants but want to be more serious! Thanks so much for your help! what about Ganache? Do you put that under the icing?

  30. What cool things did you do for your baby's first birthday party? and what do you think of my ideas?

My son is turning one August 18th and I want to start planning what all I'm going to do for the party. I know that he wont know what's going on or anything but I would still like it to be very special so that later on in his life he(or I, since he's a boy) can enjoy the video and pictures. I was thinking I could buy construction paper, paint, stickers, markers, scrapbook stuff, etc. etc. and everyone could decorate one, have it be a cool way to make a guest book. Use a three hole punch and put it in a binder along with pictures or something for memories of who all came to his first birthday. I could make one just for him, his daddy could, grandma's, grandpa's, aunts, uncle... Something more personal than just a Halmark card. I'm going with a frog theme because he always has his legs up next to his body like a little frog. I've called him "my little frog" since he was born so frogs have always just stuck. I buy him frog stuffed animals, clothes with frogs on them, and he has a giant frog bath toy holder that sticks to the wall so a frog theme is special to me. I'm going to make a frog cake for everyone else to eat then buy a little cake with a frog on it to use for his smash cake. Green decorations, plates, napkins, table cover, cups, balloons. Maybe green juice and call it "Bug Juice" At Hobby Lobby I saw little rubber frogs that I could use as decoration and then give out when people start leaving. I'd like other ideas or suggestions of what to do. I don't really know what all to do at a first birthday party... Is it just show up mingle a little bit, have cake, then do presents and that's it? What did you all do for your child's first birthday? Thank you everyone!!! I appreciate all your answers :) -Caden's Mommy

  31. Im helping Plan a soon 2 be 3yr old B-day I need some Ideas or thoughts?

Hi Thank you for a taking the time to read my question... It's a party for a will be 3 yo Girl! Her Mom has already picked the Place and the Day...… Its at a park with a water area.... Theme:? Lady bugs Disneys Princess or Tinkerbell Dora Little Mermaid Cake or Cup cakes? I think cup cakes would be easier and not so messy. Drinks: Apple Juice and Water Ballons? The kids could take them home when done but if its to hot they might pop they are also cheap decorations. Games Miss Ladybug has lost her spots...Bean Bag Toss Before the party, make a large cut out of a ladybug body using red and black poster board (red body and black head & legs) and several black bean bags. Do not make black spots on the ladybug body. Place the poster on the floor. Players help the lady bug "get her spots back", by taking turns tossing black bean bags onto Miss Ladybug's body. Pin the Ladybug on the Leaf Play like Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Draw a green leaf on a sheet of poster board. Cut red paper ladybugs for each child. Use double sided tape at game time. Young children may not want to wear a blindfold, but they can close their eyes. Then gently spin each player 3 times before they try to get the ladybug onto the leaf ...don't forget...eyes closed! Arts& Crafts Bug and Butterfly Magnets These magnets are a charming, easy-to-make craft. Have children glue pom-poms or decorative papers (precut in the shape of butterfly wings) onto craft sticks. Add googly eyes. Then place stick-on magnet strips on the bottom of the sticks. Craft Hats Party Hats they can decorate with markers and stickers they can take home when done and are easy to do. Party Favors: Lip Gloss? Stickers? Jewelry? other?

  32. can someone cut this recipe in half for me?

3 egg whites (room temperature) 4 cups confectioners sugar (approx. 1 lb.) 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar Beat all ingredients at high speed for 7 to 10 minutes. Use immediately. Rebeating will not restore texture. Yield: 2 1/2 cups *For use only as non-edible decorations which will not come in direct contact with the cake. Wash hands and utensils thoroughly after making recipe. can it be cut in half or will it not work???

  34. Birthday Party Ideas Please?

Okay my best friend Lydia is having a birthday party and I want to help her out. She doesn't live where I do so I'm flying out to her. LOL Anyway...she's stumped. There are 3 ideas she has and they aren't complete. 1.) Monkey. Her favorite animal is a monkey and she loves it to death. ~Decorations would be changing the light bulbs to green bulbs, and palm trees. ~She would have a spectacular monkey cake and monkey bread and bananas with chocolate and all of things like that. Or: Tea Party. We would have it on March 5th, and have a Tea Party with a Tea cup cake and we would see Alice in Wonderland. She absolutely ADORES Johnny Depp. 3.) ITS YOUR TURN!!!! You help make one up! Now the only problem is she has some singing competiton on the 5th. Now we could see a late movie, because it's a sleepover, but we haven't got a clue how long the singing competiton is and if anyone would want to watch it. I guess we don't have to see it on the fifth, but she wanted to and she was super excited. Please Please PLEASE help.

  35. Serious cake bakers only please! Recipe to fill 1/2 sheet pan?

I've been hard at work online looking for a basic white cake recipe where the quantity will fill a 1/2 sheet pan and has a slightly heavier texture that will hold up to fillings- I have struck out and I am turning to you guys to hopefully help me out! I hate using cake mixes since they tend to rise in the middle too much even when using strips of pan insulator all around the sides. I also don't care for the texture of the crumb unless I allow the cake to sit for a few days. Unfortunately I don't have the time! I have to knock out a retirement party cake for a friend at work- I've already finished all the decorations with Royal Icing and and they are drying as we speak- but I would hate to turn to using box mixes for the actual cake. I need a recipe that is sized according to the pan. I have a dozen basics that I use for standard 8-9" rounds & 9X13" pans -I know that I could double them, however I'm hoping to find a recipe with ingredient measurements that will fill the pan without being 2 cups short or having 3 cups left over if I triple the recipe. I'm planning on a Bavarian cream and raspberry filling- so a white/yellow cake is preferred. If you happen to have a great one that you would be willing to share I would be eternally grateful!

  36. HELP ME! It's my mom's birthday today and I'm trying to bake a cake...LOTS of problems :(

I'm trying to bake a cake using a cake mix, and that's alright because I have that covered. But I just realized I only have 1 1/2 cups of confectioners sugar...How can I use that to make frosting AND decorations AND the strawberry filling? And I can't leave the house, so I can't go buy anything. Is it possible to use coarse sugar? I also have....maple syrup, honey, and other common things. Anything I can do with those? OH and btw one person is COMPLETELY vegetarian, so I can't use any egg, even egg whites :(

  38. Help with a "Welcome Home" party?

My hubby is coming home from Afghanistan on the 14 May 07. He has to go to Fort Drum, New York before he can come back to Alabama. I am throwing him a surprise party when he gets to Alabama but what am I missing? Here is what I got so far: Balloons, garland, plates, cups, napkins, American flags, chips, pretzels, frozen meats (chicken, steaks, ribs, etc.), grill, stereo, tablecloths, sparkle candles, can drinks, cake mixes and icing for the cake and cupcakes, those decoration things that you put on cakes and cupcakes, roasting pans and covers or the meat to go in, plastic utensils, lots of decorations that can be put in the ground (red, white, and blue flowers, flag pinwheels, etc.), I am going to invite the people later since I don't know the exact day he will be here, bags of ice I will buy closer to party, and that's all I have. I want this to be HUGE! He is gettting out of the Army on medical discharge and I want this to be the best for him. What else can I get? More foods? What?

  39. How much does a TYPICAL bridal shower cost?

I am sending out 100 invitations. I'm assuming that around 75 people will show up. The bridal shower will be in a church which will not cost anything to rent. I know I have to think not only about the food but also the cups, plates, napkins, and utencils. We are not renting chairs or tables because the church comes with them. We are looking to have finger food since it will be at 2:00pm. I am thinking about finger sandwiches, mini corn dogs, vegetable trays, the cake, fruit trays, chips and dip, that kind of stuff. How much would it cost to feed 75 people with finger food (including the serving stuff and decorations)?

  40. Who pays???

We are throwing a coin shower (co ed) for my sister and brother in law to be's wedding. I am wondering do the bridesmaids pay for all, or do the groomsmen help with the cost as well? We will be supplying the beer, soda, water, coffee, decorations, cake, desserts, invitations, and dishes to pass. The mom's are providing the cost for the hall, forks, plates, cups, table cloths. The thing that bites is that I live in another state and will not be able to even enjoy anything I am paying for, seeing people enjoying and celebrating. I know and do realise that comes along with taking my position as a bridesmaid. How could you ever tell your sister no I can't afford a whole lot.

  41. A good name for a sleek dessert?

Ok, I am making individual desserts with chocolate cake with kiwi puree an lime juice and a white chocolate mousse with lime juice and lime peel and then another layer of cake. On top of it all is a really shiny smooth mayer of ganache. the decoration is a dollop of whipped cream, 3 pieces of sliced kiwi and a sprinkling of lime peel. I might also to a dark chocolate fan or white chocolate curls on top. I want a name that sounds like something they would sell at a SUPER nice restoraunt and probably costs tons of money. I have a picture of the test cake so you can see but the white souffle cup around it won't be there in the end.

  42. Moms: For a first Birthday- How much did or do you plan on spending?

Just curious- I was telling a friend of Mine today I spent around 500 dollars on my Daughters first bday! But, this included the Cake, smash cake, Catered BBQ, all the other food, drinks, plates, cups, napkins, Utensils, decorations, goodie-Bags, and her presents.... I thought that was a decent price and she thought it was crazy...But, it was her 1st b-day and I wanted it to be special... Tiph: I didnt ask for your rudeness now did I? I however do NOT think my Daughters first B-Day was a WASTE of money as you call it. I would appreciate it you could please answer the question without your rudeness. Im sorry you think its insane, but its my buisness and I did not ask what you thought about it! I asked how much YOU spent. Tiph: EXACTLY! I asked how much YOU SPENT! NOT YOUR OPINION OF HOW MUCH I SPENT! IF YOU CANT READ THE QUESTION RIGHT DONT ANSWER IT! in love with my baby: I agree with you! Its the childs first b-day and it should be memorable! I guess some people just think a little different. You were the one who RUDELY stated that if I had the money to waste, then do it. Everyone else was rather polite about it. And, i think its none of your business how much i spent. I simply just asked how much you spent! whats so hard about that?????
