  6. Have you ever ordered a cake for your childs birthday, and had the bakery do it wrong? Did you complain?

Today is my daughter's 4th birthday. For months she has been saying that she wanted a "pink and purple princess cake with roses" for her birthday. I took her to a local bakery and let her look in their photo book of the birthday cakes. They had one that had white icing, with tiny pink and yellow hearts scattered across the top, white trim and a crown and wand sitting on it. I asked if they could make 3 changes to it: instead of white trim to make it pink, purple hearts instead of pink and yellow, and a purple rose in the corner. Then it would be a "pink and purple princess cake with roses". They said no problem, asked if I wanted baby pink or hot pink and how to spell her name. My little girl said baby pink icing and I told them to do the Happy Birthday Ariel small along the bottom like in the photo in purple. They said no problem and that it would be done today. I showed up and it was nothing like the photo or like I asked them to make it. I complained that it wasn't what I asked for.. and they asked what was wrong. I showed them on the photo that the entire sides of the cake had detailed lines in it along it (Using an icing carving tool), the trim was white not pink, and instead of little purple hearts across the top they had put 3 big hearts in one corner. The Happy Birthday Ariel was so big, the crown and wand would cover up all the writing. They said they would redo it and when I came back, it was even worse. They used this deep pink color icing and piled it all along the edges, there was still no lines along the edges, and they used two different colors of pink, like they had run out of one color and had to use a different one. I complained again and was told the decorators had all gone home and they would have to call one to come back to the store. They acted like I was just being too picky and I felt like dirt. I was almost in tears so the manager called a decorator back to redo it, and gave it to me free. Did I have a right to complain about this? I know to some people it might sound like a cake for a four year old isn't something to get upset over, but my daughter is a leap year baby so this was her first "real" birthday and I wanted to really make the cake special for her. I had in my mind what I thought she wanted and really thought I explained it in detail to them and it looked like the first two times they did it that they didn't even try to do it like the picture. When the cake decorator came back to the bakery she told me "I can't make it exactly like the picture. I'll do the best I can but it isn't going to be exact." I explained that I understood that but that it looked like they didn't even try to do it like the picture. I said "The cake in the picture has little grooves all along the sides and they didn't even try to do that." She said that the cakes come "pre-iced" without the grooves, but what does that matter? The picture shows the grooves, so why on earth would they think I wouldn't notice it not having them?

  7. Does anyone have any ideas of what decorations or acctivities 3 year old girls can play at a princess party??

I'm in charge of planning this three year old girls birthday party! I have some ideas, like to panit a little cardboard box "castle style" and cut on a door, and have an archway at the entrance, and have a bouncy water slide, and have a castle cake, and lots of balloons the colors of pink, light green, violet and white. For acctivities, I was going to have a pinata, make your own crown, and face painting, but what else? How about other acctivites for 2-3 year olds? How about decoration ideas?????? Thanks!!!!

  8. Any good princess cupcake ideas?

My daughters first birthday is coming up soon and I am going to have a princess themed party for her. Being as though her and all her friends are still babies and really the theme is just for me because I love throwing parties with themes, there won't be any games or party favors, just my daughter in a super cute tutu. I am thinking of doing a small cake for her in the shape of a crown (unless provided with a better idea) and I would like to do cupcakes for all the guest. I'm having a hard time coming up with a decorating idea for them. I thought about making little crowns out of fondant, but I've never made/used fondant. Any good ideas for princess themed cupcakes? Pictures would really help. I'm also willing to use candy toppers in the shape of something cute. But I don't know where to find these...

  9. Am I going overborad for my daughters First birthday party?

Well, our daughter will be a year old in two weeks. I am putting together her party. She is having it at Pizza Hut, which I think is a good idea, because our two year son lovesPizza Hut and hopefully, it will not make him feel like the spot light is on just her. We are also buying him a present. I had a friend telling me I was going over board because I am giving our daughter a princess birthday party. I found her a little fake crystal tiara at wal mart for seven dollars and a princess dress and a princess cake and going to prob spend fourty dollars on her present. My friend said the crown is going over board! Am I going over board with this? I had a VERY bad childhood and I want my children to have the most memorable memories and happy times than any child could experience! Thanks for replies!

  12. Proof read my Personal Narrative please?

The whole convention center went silent, the lights went down and there he was walking towards me. Jason Kennedy the anchor of my favorite TV show E! News. I have looked up to him for years and never thought the day would come when I would get to meet him. Butterflies fluttered around in my stomach, thoughts and questions kept racing through my mind, is this a dream? I had practiced what I would say to him in the incident that I would ever meet him. But I couldn’t get the right words out and my whole body went limp. Is this really happening? After opening my presents Christmas morning it was time to pack for my trip to California with over 200 teens from the Portland area. We would all board a train for a long journey to California; the 30 hours went by like minutes. Meeting new people and getting closer to the people who I’ve known my whole life was well worth the hard earned money I had raised with my best friends so go on this adventure. Lauren, Haylie, and Alison have been my best friends for many years, each of us with completely different personalities, more times than not they clash immensely. Lauren is quiet but knows how to have a good time, Alison is rather bossy and is the leader of the group, and then there is Haylie the rebel, the one who every time her and I get together we somehow manage to get in trouble. I thought Disneyland with my 3 besties would be the best thing in the world, and it was for the first few hours. We all bought matching sweatshirts and princess crowns to wear around. We were quite the pair until we all started arguing about what rides we wanted to go on. Alison and Lauren decided to go together and left me and Haylie in line for the Space Mountain ride. From that moment we all knew how the rest of the week would go. Lauren and Alison would be the angels who showed up to everything on time and Haylie and I would in some way get in trouble. The Anaheim convention center was filled with 8,000 youth from over the world coming together to learn what we could do to help end modern day slavery. You walked into the entry way and could hear the roar of voices. This convention was the main reason we had come to California. As well has the concerts and of course Disneyland was just icing on the cake. The first two days of the convention was filled with fun and exciting hands on learning exhibits. But by the 3rd and final evening of the convention Haylie and I were exhausted. Our leaders were fed up with having to worry about us showing up to things and not sneaking out to hang out with the guys we met. Haylie and I were told to wait in the hotel until the guys from our group came to walk us there. Jamin and Brian came down the elevator and asked if we wanted to go to dinner with them. Haylie would do anything to avoid going to the convention so we went to Ihop which was a mile in the opposite direction. After eating dinner we headed towards to convention center and we realized we each had many calls from our leaders and friends trying to figure out where we were. When we finally arrived we were greeted by our main leaders Matt and Abby who told the boys that they saved them seats. Abby told Haylie and I we had to find our own seats. Extremely angry we left our groups floor seats to look for seat far far away from everyone. We finally found two aisle seats towards the top of the bowl. There was only 3 hours left before New Year’s we sat in our seats and were soon were fast asleep. After about an hour or so we woke up to loud Christian rap music performed by the band Grits. Both Haylie and I strongly dislike rap music. We got up to go get coffee from one of the coffee bars on the lower level of the convention center. As we walked down the stairs we see a man running towards us pushing us in the other direction as we made our way back up the stairs we looked over the rail. A man with light hair he looked to be in his early 30s lying on the ground at an awkward angle. Paramedics were assisting him into a neck brace and then onto a stretcher. As the Police approached us Haylie got nervous. He asked us simple questions about the accident to see if we saw anything. As the investigation came to an end we realized that it was almost time for the New Years after party. We hurried into the Auditorium and stopped at the door, we looked on the big screen to see the gorgeous Jason Kennedy giving away an IPod to another lucky person. We watched the 3 contestants making up little raps to see who the crowd thought did the best. Haylie noticed something that looked familiar My princess bag was on the screen. We made our way towards our seats and there he was standing in the empty place that Haylie and I were once sitting. I quickly turned around and made my way to the nearest door, we stood there with huge grins on our faces I knew he wouldn’t walk through the crowd and that he would make is exit through the back. In my head I rehearsed what I was going to say to him. I

  14. What's your dream wedding?

Now, I'm not even engaged but as a girl I have had my wedding planned for a while. Here is my dream wedding, what about yours? Be detailed! And include links if you want. If you've already had your wedding tell what it was like. I want to have my wedding in the church that I grew up in with my childhood preacher. My wedding will be in December (I'm born on Christmas day) and my colors will be red and white. I want to be carrying a bouquet of red roses with baby's breath and my bridesmaids will be carrying bouquets of white roses with one red rose in the middle. They will be wearing red dresses that fall right above or at the knee. I'm thinking maybe a halter top dress or a strapless dress one. The church will be decorated in poinsettia's and the flower girl will be throwing out red and white rose petals. She will be in a white flower girl dress that is very similar looking to my wedding dress. My cake will be a 3-tier cake. I want the top and bottom tiers to be red velvet cake with white icing and the middle tier to be white cake with red icing. I want the cake to be decorated with poinsettia flowers. My wedding song for the first dance for the bride/groom is going to be I'll Be by Edwin McCain. The wedding dress I am in love with: http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?pageSize=100&style=V7091 I love the "princess" bottom. I have always wanted a strapless dress with a corset-like top and a big flowing, princess-like bottom. I want my hair to be either down or half-down and in loose curls. And I want to be wearing a crown (since I'm a princess and all :]). I basically want a very traditional wedding.

  15. Ideas for a 4 year old's birthday party...?

We are giving my daughter a Disney Princess Party in two weeks. She will be four years old. We only know 3 other little girls around her age that will be invited. What are some ideas for activities, favors, games, food, etc? Also, what can the adults do? There are going to be a max of 14 of us. Games, food, etc? Recap: 14 adults & parents, 4 children total Here's what I came up with so far...DONT LAUGH ;) 2-4:30 pm, Sunday 2.5 hr party: Free Play-15 minutes (with the new talking Disney Princess Kitchen) Art project-15 minutes (decorate a crown to wear for the party) Snacks and Teatime-30 minutes (pinwheel sandwich, chips, and punch) Presents-10 minutes Cake and Ice Cream-20 minutes (small individual heart shaped cakes) Video-35 min, continue to play during free play time Free Play-25 min This page contains the Fairy-Tale Favor boxes that we are considering. Take a look and comment if you like. http://www.birthdayexpress.com/bexpress/product.asp?sku=E2353 In Reply to Posts: My daughter is very mature for her age and her friends are older than her. She likes to play, but I put in activities that she also enjoys. I wanted more structure during the party because most of the girls live walking distance and can always come for unstructured play.

  16. How is this for a first birthday party?

It will be her first birthday in a couple of months, and just wanted to see what everyone thinks so far of the party we have planned. We are doing a princess theme and the party will be outside (unless bad weather). There will be kids of all ages there. The invitations start out: "Calling all Knights and Fair Maidens! Princess __________ is turning one, she's having a party and wants you to come! I was going to give them out a month in advance. Is that a good time to do this? Other things we've planned: At a park or in the backyard (haven't decided which is better; any opinions?) for 2 hrs. -Food: chicken legs and wings, baked mac and cheese, a couple of salads, a couple of fruits -Cake: in a castle shape -Games: Make your own crown, Pin the lips on the frog (version of "pin the tail on the donkey"), pinata, ball pit, outdoor play equipment, and musical chairs ...and that's it. Yeah, I know she won't remember but we don't have family that lives close so when they do so her, it's not often and I want all of her cousins to have fun, too! I'm not buying that much for the party; we already own outdoor play equipment, and she's getting a ball pit for her birthday. Or, if we go to the park, they already have the outdoor equipment, too.

(ok ok so I am a child at heart still!) Any ideas guys? Its going to be at an opera house. And so you all know, I have a good reason for princess stuff my late grandmother always called me her little princess as well as my mom and dad and fiancee.
